A special time at the breakfast was the celebration of volunteerism of Lending Hands volunteers made by Board Member, Julie VanderNoot. Of special note were three volunteers who have given more than nine years of service, Magnolia Bodley, Carolyn Tourangeau and Tom Harkness. Two special guests, Cathy Gleason, an occupational therapist and Kevin Conway, a Lending Hands client and donor, made brief comments on how they feel Lending Hands has helped them and the impact the organization has on many lives.

Board member, Don Ryan gave a talk on “Worth Your Weight in Gold”. He pointed out the big value Lending Hands volunteers have to the organization by the thousands of hours of service they give. Further Ryan said Lending Hands is a small but mighty all volunteer organization with only one paid staff person. At the end of the event, Portage Mayor, Peter Strazdas, made a few comments. The mayor commented that these volunteers make me feel humble for the work they do. Further he stated volunteers are the ones changing the world. Finally he said this small non-profit organization is having a big impact in the City of Portage and surrounding communities.

Sponsorship of the event was provided by Continental Linen Supply, Jaqua Realtors, Life-EMS Ambulance, Rykse’s Restaurant and several Board members.  Special thanks to hospitality given by the Portage Senior Center.
